Company — Skype/IAAF

Brand — SPIKES

Platform — Skype Chatbot

OVERVIEW

Launched on Skype as a companion experience to the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London, the Spikes Bot  incorporates daily updates, featured athlete and discipline sections, broadcast messages, athlete and discipline search functionality, as well as a customizable My SPIKES menu where users can add and remove personalized Skype Suggested Action menu buttons.  The quality of the chat experience derived from a blend of real-time, on-site reporting coupled with robust integration with the IAAF event data APIs.

MY ROLE

Part of a two person design and writing team, I was heavily involved in mapping out the overall flow and functionality of the bot.  Additionally, I led the design and implementation of the My SPIKES personalizable menu.  I oversaw the integration with external APIs, and designed the conversational structures to expose returned data on the chat line in the bot's voice.  Prior to launch, I helmed the QA process, incorporating feedback and bug fixes.

PERSONALIZATION

With overwhelming amounts of data at their fingertips, how do we help users access
the information they want?

MY SPIKES MENU

Enhancing the fan experience by offering personalization, My SPIKES featured  dynamic ADD and REMOVE button functionality allowing users to curate the menu as desired.  Adding a favorite athlete or discipline gave quick access to related content.  For example, adding a "Usain Bolt" button, gave users one-tap access to his athlete profile, latest news, upcoming events,  records, and more.
